AccountAbility is an international non-profit organization established in 1995 with a mission to
'promote accountability innovations that advance sustainable development'. Legally established in the UK, they have a team of roughly 35 people, with bases in Beijing, London, Sao Paulo and Washington DC, with representatives in Canada, Jordan, Malaysia and Sweden.
AccountAbility's strategic goals are focused around citizen participation, competitiveness and collaboration. They work with organisations from all sectors (business, public, civil society) to improve their management of social and environmental responsibilities, develop standards (the AA1000 series) and guidelines, provide the role of a facilitator when societal and environmental challenges require different stakeholders to come together and address the challenge in a collaborative manner, and undertake strategic research around collaborative governance and competitiveness.
